The Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority is planning to build a partial interchange between State Road 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay) and Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 91). The project will include new ramps from southbound SR 417 to southbound Florida’s Turnpike and from northbound Florida’s Turnpike to northbound SR 417, along with a proposed sound wall along the southwest side of the interchange. Construction on this $30 million project is scheduled to begin in September 2013 and finish by early 2015.
During construction, nearby residents and property owners may experience some noise, vibration and dust. The Expressway Authority will take steps to minimize the impact of construction on the surrounding community.
Opened in 1988, SR 417 is a regional expressway that provides direct access between the attractions, Orlando International Airport in the southeast and the growing communities in south Orange County and Osceola County. In 1991, a Project Development and Environment Study was completed that showed the need for a full interchange between SR 417 and Florida’s Turnpike. The interchange will be constructed in two phases. The initial phase will be built by the Expressway Authority.
During construction, temporary lane closures will be necessary to accommodate construction. To minimize the impact of construction to motorists traveling on SR 417 and Florida’s Turnpike, lane closures will not be permitted during peak travel times. There will be night and weekend work on this project.
WORK ZONE SAFETY
For the safety of motorists and work crews, speed limits will be strictly enforced during construction. Speeding fines are doubled in work zones when workers are present. Motorists are reminded to change lanes for safety when they see Road Rangers assisting other motorists or flashing lights – it’s Florida law.
